1. What is AirRoom TV?

AirRoom TV is a lightweight application that turns your Android TV, Fire TV, or Google TV into an AirPlay receiver. It allows you to cast photos, stream audio in the background, and mirror screens wirelessly from your Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac) without needing any special setup or adapters.

2. Can Netflix, Disney+, or Prime Video be streamed?

No. Due to DRM (Digital Rights Management) copy protection, video streams from major commercial apps like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Hulu are heavily encrypted by Apple and cannot be decoded by third-party receiver applications. This is a technical protocol limitation, not a bug in AirRoom TV.

However, you can freely stream non-DRM content, including YouTube, standard web videos from Safari, local photos and videos from your gallery, and background music.

3. Why is the mirroring feed lagging or stuttering?

High-definition screen mirroring requires a fast and stable network. To minimize latency:

• Ensure both your TV and your Apple device are connected to the 5 GHz band of your Wi-Fi router. 2.4 GHz bands are highly susceptible to congestion and latency.
• If the lag persists, go to the settings menu inside the AirRoom TV app and lower the casting resolution or target frame rate.

4. My Apple device cannot find AirRoom TV on the Cast list.

If your TV does not appear in your Screen Mirroring or AirPlay audio menus, check the following:

• Verify that both devices are connected to the exact same local network. Some dual-band routers isolate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks from each other.
• Ensure that AP Isolation / Access Point Isolation is disabled in your Wi-Fi router's admin settings. This feature blocks wireless devices from communicating directly with each other.
• Verify that the background service is running on the TV. You can also try toggling Wi-Fi off and back on on your Apple device to force an mDNS scan.

5. Does it support background audio playback?

Yes! AirRoom TV fully supports background audio playback. When you minimize the player or return to the TV home screen, the music will continue to stream, and a native "Now Playing" card will appear on the Android TV dashboard showing the track info, connection status, and progress.

6. What are the current known limitations of AirRoom TV?

Development is active to continuously improve AirRoom TV. The following are the current limitations in this release:

• Gallery Video Playback: Videos cast directly from the native iOS Photos app/gallery may hang or fail to render video frames, though the audio track streams successfully.
• Photo Slideshow Transitions: Smooth transitions between casting Photos gallery images are not supported. To view a different photo, you must close the current casting view to select and cast the next photo.
• Image Zooming: Zooming or scaling cast images on the TV screen is currently unstable.
• Screen Mirroring Rotation: Display rotation during active screen mirroring can be unstable or buggy.
• Screen Mirroring Disconnection: No manual disconnect button is displayed on the TV screen during mirroring; mirroring must be stopped directly from the sender device.
• Music Playback Control: Play, pause, and track skip controls using the physical TV remote control are not supported.
• Native Media Player for Music (macOS): Streaming music from an iPhone successfully launches and displays metadata inside the app's native custom media player, but streaming from macOS does not load the custom player.
• Background Service Reclaiming: On some aggressive Android TV systems, the operating system might kill the background receiver service to reclaim RAM. If AirRoom TV disappears from your Cast list, simply relaunch the app on your TV to restart the service.

As an open-source project, developer contributions, bug fixes, and optimizations to resolve these limitations are highly welcome. Code improvements can be submitted directly via Pull Requests on the GitHub Repository.

7. Is AirRoom TV open source? How to contribute or submit a fix?

Yes! AirRoom TV is a 100% free, community-driven, and open-source project.

Developer contributions, bug reports, and optimizations are welcome from the community. If a bug is encountered, a code fix is known, or a new feature is proposed, the GitHub Repository can be visited to report issues, discuss logic, or submit a Pull Request directly with changes. This helps build a better casting experience on Android TV for everyone.
